Taking The Plunge , Malo Mazurié's first album as a leader. This artist, passionate and devoted to the art of jazz since his early years, has shared the stage with great names (Eric Legnini, Ali Jackson, Thomas Dutronc, Robin McKelle, Didier Lockwood…) but today, he moves from the shadowy world of sideman to the full spotlight with an album that tells his story in a remarkable way.
Taking The Plunge is a musical journey rooted in the earliest emotions Malo felt when he discovered early jazz at the age of six, playing on an old cornet forgotten in the attic. The melodies of Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, and Jelly Roll Morton were the soundtrack of his childhood, and today he reinterprets them with a vibrant and ever-stimulating inspiration.
The recording also includes eight original compositions, each reflecting Malo Mazurié's profound understanding of jazz across all its eras. These pieces shine like jewels from the past, while also bringing a contemporary and personal touch that characterizes Malo's unique style.
This project brings together a group of exceptional musicians, long-time collaborators who share a deep musical connection. Together, they have created an ensemble sound reminiscent of 1930s groups, while exploring new frontiers of modern jazz.
